"The Beloved One of Rasulullah ﷺ," encapsulates the profound connection he shared with Rasulullah ﷺ. He holds many distinctions, one of which is, before the verses abrogating calling your adopted son or daughter to your name, he was known as Zayd ibn Muhammad, Zayd the son of Muhammad. He was also with Rasulullah ﷺ during the hardest day of the prophet’s life, where he was ridiculed and stoned out of Taif with Zayd being bloodied trying his best to protect the Messenger of Allah.

Zayd holds the distinguished honor of being the only companion explicitly called by name in the Quran in Surah Al Ahzab. Everytime we read his name from the Quran we are also given rewards by Allah SWT. Such an honor for such a noble person.

The Journey from slave to son

Zayd's journey began with adversity when he was captured and sold as a slave in his childhood. He was adopted by Khadijah RA, the beloved wife of the Prophet SAW who gifted him to Rasulullah ﷺ. Zayd thus became part of the household and grew up closely to the best of creation, Rasulullah ﷺ.

Zayd’s father eventually heard news of Zayd and rushed to Mecca to get back his Son. When he met Rasulullah ﷺ he informed him of the situation and tried to negotiate to take back his Son. Rasulullah ﷺ told Zayd’s Father that Zayd would be free to go but the choice belonged to Zayd.

Zayd decided to stay alongside the Rasulullah ﷺ saying that he wouldn’t leave his side for anything this world has to offer.

Zayd's decision to stay marked a powerful declaration of loyalty and attachment to Rasulullah ﷺ. He would rather be a slave in the household of Rasulullah ﷺ than be a free man. Rasulullah ﷺ was overjoyed and declared in front of the Kaabah that he had adopted Zayd as his Son and that Zayd would inherit from him.

A Brave Warrior
